ASIS Chapter 104
Meet Charlie Kaplan:

Charlie is the newly appointed ASIS International Assistant Regional Vice
President for the South Florida Chapters of Region 13. Since 2003 he has
proudly served in all of the executive positions for Fort Lauderdale Chapter
104. Charlie attained his certification as a CPP in 2005.
Charlie founded and chaired Chapter 104’s Education Committee and
CPP review courses and has served as the Chairman of the ASIS
International Annual Law Enforcement Banquet for nine years. He also
chairs the Election Committee.
Born and raised in Paterson, New Jersey, Charlie became a member of
the Paterson Auxiliary Police in 1972 and attained the rank of Sergeant.
He was appointed to the Paterson Police Department on January 1, 1975.
In 1982 Charlie became an investigator with the Passaic County Superior
Court and served until 1986. Realizing that his true calling was with the
police department, he returned to serve with the Paterson Police.
During his career with the Paterson Police Department he was assigned
to almost all of the various units within the department. He received many
citations during his law enforcement career including the Passaic County
New Jersey 200 Club Medal of Valor award and was recognized by the
New Jersey State Legislature. In October of 1997, Charlie attended the Tri
State Conference of the Blue Knights International Law Enforcement
Motorcycle Club. His lobbying efforts resulted in the awarding of a chapter
designation which is now known as the Blue Knights New Jersey Chapter
17.
One of the proudest moments of his career was his promotion to the rank
of Detective in the Major Crimes Division. Charlie is a lifetime member of
the New Jersey PBA Local #1 and was a member of their annual dinner
committee for several years. He retired in 2000 and moved to Florida with
his family. In January of 2001 Charlie became the Director of Security for
the Sheraton Yankee Trader Hotel in Fort Lauderdale. In April of 2006
Charlie joined Allied Barton Security Services as the District Manager of
Broward County. In 2006 Charlie established Ironwood Investigations
Inc., specializing in representing personal injury attorneys, computer
forensics, surveillance, background investigations, premises liability
mitigation and many other facets of the investigations industry. He is a
member in good standing of the Florida Association of Licensed
Investigators. Charlie also served as the President of the Broward County
Hotel Motel Security Association for four years. Charlie’s talents include
producing Ad Journals for some of the organizations of which he has been
a member. His other interests include photography and creative writing.
