Meet Gary Reiss:
ASIS Chapter 104

Gary began his professional law enforcement career in 1985 with the New
York City Police Department. He ascended through the ranks from Police
Officer through Police Executive-Deputy Inspector in his 21 year career.
Gary has 17 years of extensive supervisory experience. He has
accumulated 16 years of in-depth investigatory experience, both in the
areas of criminal and internal related investigations.

He was one of the 1st responders to the World Trade Center on 9/11 and
was physically present when the 2nd commercial airliner struck the towers.
Both he and his Police team were responsible and credited for saving and
evacuating thousands of Trade Center employees prior to the collapse of
the 1st Tower. He considers himself lucky to be alive after such a massive
attack.

Gary's ability to empower fellow employees and engage in creative problem
solving has transformed the N.Y.P.D.’s Criminal Investigation Division into
a premier law enforcement investigating authority.  Many of his prior cases
have been high priority and have received daily media attention. Over the
years, he has developed relationships with the various Police related
agencies across the country, District/United States Attorney’s offices, and
all of the New York City Police Endowment Associations. He retired from the
N.Y.P.D. in 2005.

Currently Gary is Director of Security for a large healthcare system in south
Florida.  He finds the area of healthcare to be very rewarding where he and
his Professional Security Team can make a difference and save lives.

He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from the
respected John Jay College of Criminal Justice.  Extensive additional
college courses were taken at Queens College in both Pre-Med and
Accounting studies. He also instructs as an Adjunct Professor at a local
college campus, where he teaches a “Crisis Prevention Intervention”
course, with a self-defense component.

Gary has prior experience in all aspects of security related areas including
the sale and installations of Burglar alarms, Closed Circuit Television
Cameras, Access Control, and Executive Protection.

Gary thrives on helping others, motivating and counseling both prospective
and current law enforcement personnel.  He is approachable and always
available. Please feel free to contact him if you need a friend or want to talk
about any topic in the law enforcement or security arena.
